Home Cinema Advice by
Guilbert
I have just bought my first AV (Audio/Visual) receiver, a Yamaha RX-V357.
I have connected up the sound, and can now get my TV, Sky, DVD and VCR
through the six speakers.
But I am having trouble understanding the benefit of putting the picture
through the Receiver.
Currently all the devices (Sky, DVD and VCR) are connected to the TV via
scart sockets.

sony vpl w400 lcd projector by
nntp.pipex.com
I bought a second hand one of these about 18 months ago and although it's
had little use - about 100 hours - all it will give is a red/pink screen
with SVid, composite and component input.
Is this the lcd panel giving up the ghost and if so, is it worth getting it
repaired.
Thanks in advance

Should a £2000 TV automatically adjust for aspect ratio? by
cdmjax@yahoo.com
I recently purchased a Samsung 42" plasma (PS42S5H) but each time I
switch between channels on my Sky+ box, I have to manually tell the TV
how to display the image - 4:3 or 6:9. I found that I was constantly
switching between aspect ratios to get the TV to display the image
correctly (not squeezed or squashed) so I contacted the manufacturer
via their web-site. Samsung initially told me that this...

Plasma vs. LCD vs CRT by
Chris Skrimshire
Dear all,
I suspect this may have been done to death (and if so, apologies) and I
daresay there is no clear cut answer, but I am new to this debate and need
to make a decision on a new TV very soon.
It will be a 32" set.
Some arguments that I'm vaguely aware of a-

Philips or Toshiba by
Gary
I am torn between two LCDs, the Philips 32pf9967 and tosh 32wlt58, both have
pros and cons over the other but both would meet my requirements. Primary
use for watching 'normal tv' and Sky+ with occasional DVD. Any comments on
which is best?
Cheers

Newbie - audio options on TV by
dotnw@hotmail.com
On the back of my Sony KV-28FX60U TV are 2 audio connection options -
1) Standard red & white RCA phonos, to go to a Hi-Fi / Amp (Labelled
L/G/S/I and R/D/D/D)
2) 2 external speaker terminals, 2-pin DIN (Also labelled L/G/S/I and
R/D/D/D)
I've scoured the manual, and there's virtually no information about
either of these audio options.

LCD TV recommendations please by
Ed
Hi there
As per previous thread where my panasonic tv is about to expire,
perhaps I'll jump on the LCD/Plasma bandwagon.
I only want 32" maximum, have small living room so dont want it to take
over the house, so LCD seems the likely option. I also presume I should
get one that is HD ready, but wonder how much that adds to the price.
Cheers

Denon avr-3300 problem by
gbozovic11@yahoo.com
Hi,
My folks had the Denon 3300 for about 5 years with no problems. A
couple of days ago they called and complained that they were getting
sound but no picture on the television. The Denon serves as a switch
for composite and svhs (DVD, VCR, DirecTv reciever, LD player) As a
quick fix I told them to route a composite cable quickly from the
Directv reciever to the TV directly.
When I came home...

Grinding noise from InFocus X1 by
Geoff Winkless
Hi
My X1 has started making a grinding noise. It changes pitch with the
colour wheel speed (ie when I switch between PAL and NTSC) so I assume
it's something to do with that rather than the fans.
I've taken the whole projector apart (it's out of warranty) and blown
away any dust but it's still there.
It happened a couple of times before but went after a few seconds so I'd

DVD recorders with dv input by
Ed
Hi there
I am looking for a DVD recorder to be used as a replacement for my vcr,
but also to back up mini dv camcorder tapes. Panasonic's most basic
recorder with the dv input seems to be the DMRES20. I like Panasonic
because of the time slip thing and chasing playback that DVDRAM allows.
However, will discs recorded on this machine play on other players -
some reviews seem to indicate yes,...

Panasonic TV about to go wrong? by
Ed
I fear my 6 year old Pansonic tv (CRT) is about to break. It has
started making an annoying whistling noise that increases in volume the
longer it stays on, yet is intermittent.
Do you think the tube is about to die, or is this something that could
be fixed with fitters standard toolkit? (hammer)

Is home cinema and hi-fi the only techie hobby with pseudo science? by
loz
The recent debate on mains cables improving your sound/picture (or not) got
me wondering whether other techie hobbies are also blessed with similar
pseudo science claims?
For example, having an interest in digitial photography I am not aware of
anyone pedalling strange add ons that in some mysterious way improve my
camera's picture taking ability. Or have I just not come across them yet (I...

Budget Projectors by

Anyone recommend any budget projectors? I'd mainly use it for computer
stuff and watch the odd DVD from my laptop. It'd be nice to get an XGA
one - what's the cheapest these are going for? Anything else I should
