Have been bought a Sharp HT-DV40H dvd home cinema system and the
subwoofer has a low level hum which is noticable at low level playing, its a passive subwoofer so no mains transformer in it, at first I blaimed the subwoofer its self but after plugging another speaker in I get the same hum. I do notice that the speaker cable is the bog standard speaker cable and wonder if I get better cable if it would cure it. This happens no matter what I am playing be it radio/cd/dvd or through the optical sky input. I have now turned all off at the mains apart from the home cinema its self and it still hums. When I reduce the volume to 0 it goes when I turn it up above 0 its back. Anyone come across the same problem? |

Try moving the speaker, but my guess is the leak / coupling is internal. |

Well its not a problem from the mains external to the machine as Ive
isolated the machine and filtered the mains with a 6-Way Mains Conditioner but I do now think that it is internal mains hum as I have done everything I can. I did receive an email to say that a lot of home cinemas with dvd are prone to making a hum noise when played at low volume So guess Iam stuck with it, I now disconnect the woofer if Iam watching or listening to anything that I want low volume on |

I phoned my supplier and they were happy to either swap it, refund (as
it was in the refund time) or upgrade. They hadnt heard of hum from that unit but I didnt want to risk so I upgraded to the samsung HT-X200R and its just arrived and its tons better and as a bonus plays my movies straight from my external hard drive via usb, something the other unit did not even try. |
