The problem is getting the power to the speakers. Power over Ethernet is
not up to delivering the amount of energy required, so each speaker would
require a discrete [mains] PSU - not very elegant.

The only way to do it would be to place a battery pack in or behind each
speaker, and use the PoE to trickle charge the thing between uses.

Or solar panels?

Also not all that elegant, but it would work, considering that most
folks would not tax the battery pack too much, so the PoE might work.
Still a pretty stupid idea. Wireless power to charge the battery would
be better/more elegant. More radio wave bouncing around as well.

Unfortunately it would also cook the listeners...

Audiofile: - My new wireless stereo has seven by one hundred watt channels.
Cynic: - why my microwave oven is 700W too, but it only goes "ting!".

Ah, I see you've got one of those machines that go "ping!"

I really don't see why plugging a speaker into a wall outlet is so
inelegant (obviously, since my speakers are plugged into the mains
outlet). Short wire to the wall, or long wire from the amp to the
speaker, six of one half a dozen of the other.

Yes, Richard.

And you are a true Usenet dope for never making an intelligent post, yet
always being there to point your retarded wittle finger.

The nym is a reference to the song.

Of course, I do not give you enough credit to grasp the reference, or
the Gieco commercials that prove cave-men are pretty smart too.

It is not hard to be smarter than you, RichTard.

Gotta find a woman... DANCE!.... Right ON!

===============================
I guess a mouth-breather like you would know ALL the TV commercials by
heart.

It is a good thing that we are not all as smart as you, little man.
If we were, we would all be dumb as stumps.
