I bought a 50" panny plasma from these guys. It went like this

Day 1: ordered with 'buy now/pay later'.
Printed off finance deal and posted it off signed etc

Day 2: finance approved by email at 12:30 and digital point called 10
mins later me and asked if I would like it on day 3 (which of course
resulted in a resounding, "Yes")

Day 3: Driver called at 8:30 to advise they were setting off and to
expect their arrival between 2-4pm.
Called at 2.30 to say they were 20 mins away.
Arrived within 20 mins.
Their own drivers carried it into the house: opened and plugged in and
checked and asked if I was happy.

Very easy, very polite, very helpful and met their targets.
I am very impressed. I guess the real test is when it dies and I need
assistance to replace it but until then.....

You want to get yourself down to Tesco's you'll be impressed there to. As
long as you pay for it, they will let you take stuff away there and then.
Very impressed.

Internet retailers can be a mixed bag though. I for one think it's useful to
know if a retailer has good customer service, at least to the sales point.
Some can't even manage that!

Exactly my point.
I have bought a lot of kit from web traders over the years and this was
a serious cut above the rest.
Things change! I lost £100 to Techtronics having sent them a cheque as a
deposit for an interest free deal on a HDD/DVD recorder (when they were
a lot more expensive) - and lost it when they went under.
My post was just an up to date assessment which I hoped would be useful
to someone poised to buy.

I'm thinking of getting the Sharp LC46XD1E, which they have for a nice price
:-)

That is indeed an excellent level of service. However, I'm not too sure
about their £25 'arrangement fee' for the buy now pay later option.

Having looked at quite a few LCDs, I just don't think the picture cuts
it. Looks synthetic - almost like people are computer generated.
I love the vivid and powerful plasma pictures.
Go on, take the 50" panny, 4 " more for £300 less (and you can pay
before November interest free)

I know, it caught me half way through the purchase as I missed the info.
Bummer. Actually, it is not digital points charge, it is their chosen
finance company. It is an option at the end of the day - and it's
cheaper than credit cards if you intent to pay it over the months.
This said, £25 change for 9 months free credit on over £1K makes it an
effective interest rate of 3.3% (just like card companies are doing,
grabbing a return through a 'charge').
At 3.3% I decided it was better to invest the dosh I had put aside at 5%
with Ing. Still makes me a few pints for free (make sense?).

I saw it on demo with an HD player, and it looked OK. I've got this
perennial worry with plasma about screen burn and screen life. I see
Digital-Point have got the Sharp with a 3 year warranty as well... I don't
know what to do!

Screen burn? Unless you are sitting with static images for LONG periods,
it is not an issues - and it was NEVER more of an issue than with CRT's
(I mean look at screens in arcades and you'll see it is only yhr static
part of the picture that burns).
Panasonic have shown their fully effective life to be 60K hours - some
20 years with 5 hours use a day. When it reaches this point it will not
die, it will be less brilliant than before (brightness)
LCD,s have a lamp life of approx the same - when it reaches this point,
it will be dead - completely!
So where is the indecision?
LCD looks good - plasma at that size looks awesome! spend the saving on
D&G warranty extension if you're worried!
