Forgetting about HD and bluray, which recordable DVD format is the
best? The reason I ask is I was backing up some old tapes onto DVD for my brother, and he gave me a spindle of DVD+R discs. Previously I have used only DVD-R discs for recordings that I want to write once and finalise into DVD-Video, and DVD-RAM for timeshifting before we got a PVR. Is one of the +R or -R better for any reason, or are they interchangeable? Apologies for my ignorance! Cheers Ed |

I record to DVD+RW as that's what my Philips recorder will take (as well as +R but these are discs I want to reuse) and after I've made a DVD on my PC I record it to DVD-R (Datawrite Yellow top) as -R, last time I checked, tended to be cheaper than +R, although prices have crumbled since I started buying blank DVDs so I'd have to check to see what the difference is now, but I'll just stick with what I know works. I get mine from www.digitalpromo.co.uk |

They aren't interchangeble as a matter of course but most machines these days seem to be able to cope with playback from both formats. Many also, these days will record to either format. If you really want to know the difference between them then head over to Wikipedia where there is a nice easy explanation ..... as well as an horredously complex technical explanation. I don't think one format is considered better than the other - they are simply different. |

In article om,
says... Forgetting about HD and bluray, which recordable DVD format is the best? There's only one way to find out... -- viv +RW is easier to use than -RW because of the quick start of +rw . +R and -R are no difference to use. |

No compatibility issues with anything I've recorded on it. I do however record to the HDD first then save to DVD if I want to keep it. I tend to but whatever disks are at hand and cheap. Last was a shop near me and was - Rs 100 for about £8. before that it was +Rs for about £8.50. Doc |
