Forgetting about HD and bluray, which recordable DVD format is the
best?

There's only one way to find out...

+RW is easier to use than -RW because of the quick start of +rw . +R
and -R are no difference to use.

That's only true if the recorder is designed to use both types due to an
intrinsic difference between the two formats. If it says -R then buy -R if
it says +R then buy +R if it says it works with both it's very unlikely you
will notice a difference.

The reason I ask is I was backing up some old tapes onto DVD for my
brother, and he gave me a spindle of DVD+R discs. Previously I have
used only DVD-R discs for recordings that I want to write once and
finalise into DVD-Video, and DVD-RAM for timeshifting before we got a
PVR.

Is one of the +R or -R better for any reason, or are they
interchangeable?

Apologies for my ignorance!

Cheers
Ed

Never had a problem with either on my Liteon 5023. No compatibility
issues with anything I've recorded on it. I do however record to the
HDD first then save to DVD if I want to keep it. I tend to but
whatever disks are at hand and cheap. Last was a shop near me and was -
Rs 100 for about £8. before that it was +Rs for about £8.50.

£8 for a hundred?-

D'oh!
Make that 50.
