I have Denon AVR3805 plus a matching DVD player, Sky + box and
recently acquired 42" Panasonic Plasma.I also have a surrond sound speaker system hooked off this - Infinity Aureous. I can get the Sky box and TV to play through the speakers, but caanot for the life of me get the DVD palyer to play a DVD and play through the speakers. I am a non technical person and found the manuals very tricky along with trying to assign the various ports on the Amp. My current config is There are Scart connections from TV to Sky and TV to DVD player. A Denon link connection between the two Denon Machines. Finally there is an S video cable running from the DVD to the Amplifier.... My questions: 1. I need to get it work sensibly, how do I connect it all up ! 2. WHat is the best way to get best quality to connect all the bits together (The DVD does have HD connection capability) Thanks |

WHat is the best way to get best quality to connect all the bits together (The DVD does have HD connection capability) Thanks Hi, The S video cable does not pass sound, just pictures. As your DVD player is connected to your TV with scart (hopefully fully wired and therefore RGB if you TV scart supports it), you do not need to connect the S Video cable to your amp. BUT you DO need to connect your DVD player to your amp for sound - best done with a digital connection - optical or "coaxial" otherwise you won't get the proper surround effect. Set you DVD player's digital output to BitStream (not PCM) and set your amp to "look" at the digital input that you connected your DVD player to. You should hear lovely surround sound from your DVD player, through the amp. Make sure your TV volume is set to 0. If you want the best picture from your DVD player, connect it to the TV with the digital connection (HDMI, I expect) and get rid of the scart. Only use the scart for the Sky box. You can also connect your sky box to the amp either by optical digital cable if it's a sky + box or by two red and white phono cables. The sound should be much better than through your TV's speakers. Hope this helps Rolo |

The Denon Link *is* your audio connection from DVD to amp, but apparently you need to turn it on in the amp settings or else it ignores it, which might explain why you get no sound from your DVDs. You need to make sure that the "Link" icon is showing up on the amp display to show it's on and has detected the Link is connected up. You also haven't stated how the Sky+ box is connected to your amp - are you using an optical connection? That's the only way to get true surround sound out of it. How is your TV connected to your amp? Dan |

So you're saying you have no connection from either the TV or the Sky+ to the amp? In your original post you said that you have the TV and Sky working through the speakers - but if neither are connected to the amp that isn't possible. The SVideo from the DVD to amp is doing nothing as you don't appear to have the amp connected to the TV - SVideo on carries the picture, and should only be connected to the amp if you are going to use the amp for video source switching (where the amp controls what is sent to the TV using it's inputs). Right now the pictures you see on the TV are being carried via the Scart cables - the SVideo is doing nothng. In my setup at home I have: DVD Scart to TV Scart 1 (RGB) Sky+ Scart to TV Scart 2 Sky+ optical to amp optical input DVD coaxial to amp coaxial input (if I had a second optical connection on the amp I'd use it here too, in your case this is the Denon Link connection) When I want to watch Sky+ I switch the amp to the "CD/DVD" input (which is how my amp labels the optical input), and the TV to Scart 2 (which is automatic when the DVD is off as the TV uses Scart signal switches to flip to Scart 1 when the DVD player is turned on). When I want to watch a DVD I switch the amp to "DVD/6CH" (the name for the coax/6ch input), and the TV switches itself to Scart 1 automatically. I have the TV speakers turned off, all audio is via my amp and it's connected surround speakers. Dan |
