LCD Full HD or compromise? by
smorris12345@hotmail.com
I'm looking at buying a LCD TV . Price and lookswise the SAMSUNG
LE-40F71B is looking quite good because it's 1080p.
As a source I use sky+ only, which I will upgrade to sky+ HD, but the
HD content I will watch is only likely to be sport and the odd movie,
which is only about 20% of my viewing.
My questions:
1) is there a better screen around at a similar price (or lower). (I'd
prefer a 42" but...

would a philips plasma reciever box drive other plasmas ok please ? by
Tim_UK
my 3 year old 42" philips plasma has died
would like to use the reciever box (philips FTR 9965) that came with this
with a replacement plasma as this has numerous inputs, picture in picture
etc.
it connects via what looks like a standard monitor cable - is this likely to
work with plasma tv's with a normal pc type input.
thanks for any comments.

Smart Home Show 2007 - Videos and Review by
Larchview@googlemail.com
I've just returned from the Smart Home Show (22-25 March 2007) and in
this, its third incarnation at the NEC in Birmingham, the public was
treated to the best show yet! In a first for Automated Home, we have
videos from the show...
http://youtube.com/automatedhome
....which should give a good taste of the event for those that couldn't
make it and hopefully show some items that you may have...

Replacement bulbs/lamps for Tosh RPTV Coffin by
KD
Hi all,
I'm about to give my old Tosh 57WH36 a new home. As such I'm trying to find
out if spares for the bulbs/lamps are available so the new owner has
somewhere to look if things go pop! The usual googling offers nothing
obvious and an email to Tosh has just bounced back for some odd reason
(trying to send it to an email address which has multiple matches at Toshiba
central ???). ...

Panasonic DMR-EX95 DVD Recorder: Aspect Ratio Problem by
billy.batson
Can anyone help with an aspect ratio problem I am having with a newly
purchased Panasonic DMR-EX95 DVD recorder?
On my Bush TV monitor, which is correctly set to 4:3 ratio, and on
which normal TV programmes appear in 4:3, certain Region 1 DVDs played
on the Panasonic appear in widescreen with black bands top and bottom.
When starting the DVD the picture appears in 4:3 for a split second
before...

Sharp LC46XD1E PC connection problems by
StainlessSteelRat
(Alos posted at AVForums.com, but thought I'd try here as well)
Hi folks,
Just bought a Sharp LC46XD1E 46 inch Aquos.
Connected both my PC and laptop to it and... nothing. The TV is working with
normal SCART input, and I've also made sure to extend my desktop, and the TV
is showing as a detected device with compatible resolutions and refresh
rate, but still no picture.

I'm impressed - digital-point.co.uk by
DCA
I bought a 50" panny plasma from these guys. It went like this
Day 1: ordered with 'buy now/pay later'.
Printed off finance deal and posted it off signed etc
Day 2: finance approved by email at 12:30 and digital point called 10
mins later me and asked if I would like it on day 3 (which of course
resulted in a resounding, "Yes")
Day 3: Driver called at 8:30 to advise they were setting off and...

Don't suppose anyone knows how to get into the service menu for a Sony
KDS-70R2000?
I need to reduce the amount of overscan for use with a PC.

LCD vs. Plasma by
StainlessSteelRat
I'm sure this has been debated to death, but is there any consensus yet on
which is a better technology? (In terms of sets being produced today)
I'm looking at a Samsung 50" plasma which has a great price, compared to
even just a few months ago, but a friend is adamant that I'm wasting my
money buying plasma and should opt for a smaller and slightly more expensive
LCD.

Building a home recording studio by
Hayak
"How do I soundproof my garage, basement, or a bedroom in my single
family house or condo so my 4 piece rock band can practice and record
and not bother the neighbors?" If I had a dollar for every time I was
asked this question, I would be in the Bahamas right now, instead of
writing this article. Many factors need to be considered prior to
beginning your studio or practice room-soundproofing...

TSI-Europe - recommendation by
Geoff Winkless
Hi
My X1 bulb exploded on Thursday night (at about only 1500 hours, grrr)
which meant a weekend with no big-TV (there aren't any local suppliers
around here).
I spent a bit of time searching online and found (apart from a load of
places with no stock) a couple of places with the bulb, one was TSI -

HD on old Sony CRT? by
Mik F
Hi folks,
I've got one of them old fashioned (!) CRT tellys; a 36" Sony
KV-36FS70 to be precise and I'm idly wondering whether it would be
possible to hook it up to HD source ie SKY HD or an HD-DVD / Blu-Ray
player and if I could would there be any point? That is, would the
picture I get from this be any better than I'm currently getting from
standard DVDs?
I can handle the cost of upgrading a...

Buying goods from the US by
Simon Heather
If you would like to take advantage of the weak dollar to buy goods in the
US but have encountered problems with getting US shops to ship
internationally or take UK credit cards then I can recommend using MyUS.com
(http://www.myus.com/) - they will buy goods on your behalf and then ship
them from their US warehouse to you cheaply and declare the value for
customs at half what you have paid in...
