Basically when you first use a plasma, older sets needed to be run in
by not having the brightness too high. I did do this with my set -
even though others have stated on these sets its not necessary. From
memory, I don't recall seeing anything mentioned in the user guide
about running in - which if it were necessary, you'd expect them to
show it. (I may be wrong about that - it was a year ago I bought it!)
When in doubt though, its best not to take chances - thats what I
thought. Its no real issue though. Just means not using the "dynamic"
setting for a few weeks.
plasmas seems to attract some strange stories.
Agreed. Whilst speaking to a couple of people at work (one of which
was thinking of buying an LCD or backscreen projector) they confirmed
to me that Plasmas only last 2 years and have to be replaced!
Obviously being a proud owner of a Plasma, I was alarmed (well not
really!) and argued the point (given the Panasonic has a 60,000 hour
to half life expectancy.)
I was then told "You think you know more than you do. You are the only
person I know that thinks Plasmas are better. Everyone knows LCD is
the way to go". I had to laugh!
Obviously everything is personal choice and personally I wouldnt buy
an LCD for the living room. The colours on a Plasma are far more vivid
than those Ive seen on LCDs. I also dont like the viewing angle
problems that some LCDs have. But hey, I voted with my wallet! ;-)
last week a guy at work seriously warned me - ' don't forget - after a
couple of years they need to be re-gassed' !?
i asked him how exactly they would open 1024x768 individual sealed little
things .... he had no answer.
Yes, Ive heard that re-gassing one also.
